How do I request an interlibrary loan?
- Visit a library location or call (714) 288-2410 to speak with a library staff member
- Have your Orange Public Library card number ready
- Author, title, publisher, copyright date and edition of the book that you wish to borrow
How much does it cost?
- $2.00 per request plus any additional fees charged by the lending library
- We make every effort to fill requests from a library that does not charge fees for interlibrary loans and most requests are filled without additional cost
- We borrow books from libraries located throughout the U.S. Most libraries that we borrow from do not charge fees for loaning their books unless they are lost or damaged.
What kinds of materials can we borrow?
- Library books and journal articles
- Excluded: Books published during the current year, magazines, DVDs, CDs, and Audio books.
How long does it take to get a book?
- Approximately 2-4 weeks, depending on availability and postal delivery
- While we cannot guarantee we can get a particular book, we do fill 90% of our requests.
How long may I borrow a book?
- The lending library determines how long you may borrow a book
- The average loan period is 2 to 4 weeks.
Can I renew books borrowed from another library?
- Yes, but only upon approval from the loaning library.
